Making your own vintage, high waisted jean shorts

While my stay in London I noticed a lot of girls wearing high waisted jean shorts, with tights because it was freezing out there. I doubt anyone would be brave enough to wear them bare legged.

Going through my closet I remembered having a pair of high waisted 501 Levi's Jeans, which at one time were dark denim, but I have owned them since I was in junior high so they have lost their color.

Even though, I would never wear these pants out because I had slit the bottom of them since that was the style back in the 90's, I never had the heart to throw them out. I also always liked knowing I could still fit into something which I used to wear when I was younger. So I pulled them out and decided to cut them into shorts. Making my own vintage shorts.

So I grabbed a ruler and a pair of scissors and I started measuring the inseam. I wanted to make sure that I would cut the hem giving me enough extra fabric just incase I needed to fix it. I measured 5 inches from the inseam. I put them back on to check the length and decided to cut one more inch off. I folded the hem and presto I got new high waisted jean shorts.

I wanted a pair for myself because they make your waist look small and they definitely influence your assets.

This was a great way to taking something old and making them into something new. I am excited to start wearing these with summer just around the corner.

Why not try finding something old in your closet and making it into something new. Let me know what u come up with. Have fun! Oh an please don't blame me if you screw up.

Steve Madden DAADE

Photo taken by: Trish Bucheli

You know when you can't stop thinking about something when you leave it behind, it is meant to be yours'?

So I went on a gander around the South Coast Plaza about two weeks ago, I had a friend come out from Australia to visit so I took him there because he wanted to do some shopping. He said that compared to the prices out in Australia everything is so much cheaper out here.

I was not looking for anything in particular, I was just popping in and out of stores looking at stuff, when I walked by the Steve Madden's  store and saw their new line of shoes. I immediately gasped as I walk towards their new booties named DAADE. I asked to try them on,  my size was the one on display, so I put them on, these shoes fit amazing. I was just really hating myself for even putting them on my feet because they were so comfortable, yet I decided to leave them behind. For the next couple of days I couldn't stop thinking about them. I even had dreams about them. I started checking out the website and just staring at them. Funny thing was that when I saw the price of them at the store they were marked at $129.99, but when I was looking them up on the website they were priced at $109.

When I finally decided to buy them, I noticed they did not offer my size online since I am a 5 1/2, yes I know small feet. So I called the store to make sure they still had them and I can save myself a drive to the mall. To my demise they had pretty much completely sold out. The girl who helped me out was really great. She helped me special order them. The awesome thing was, I got them for the price of $109 and free shipping. I guess someone messed up on the website hehe.

Here they are my new found loves, which I have received many compliments on. I love Steve Madden because their shoes are very comfortable and decently priced.

Helena Bonham is Marc Jacobs new muse

The eccentric English actress Helena Bonham is Marc Jacobs muse for the Fall/Winter 2011.

The actress is known for the miss matching and quirky choices when it comes to dressing for red carpet events.

This really sounds like a great pairing especially since Jacobs has that fun, quirky and fun clothing line.

Let's not forget that Bonham is known for mising out on the top best list. She dresses for herself and really is adament to keeping her look, her look. She isn't one to change or follow the trend just because it is in fashion. She wore different color shoes and a Viviane Westwood dress to the Golden Globes.

The Jacobs 2011 Fall line is very representative of English fashion, according to Style.com he even worked with British company House of Harlow to work on some of the latex blouses and dresses in his line.

Also, in the Fall line there are a lot of facinators, which look like bell boy hats and after the royal wedding many people have learn what they are. For the Jacobs line expect to see a lot of polkadots they are used a lot in this collection.

I am sure we can expect great fashion from the collboration between Boham and Jacobs, they both have very creative minds.

2011 MTV Movie Awards best dress

Well another Awards show has gone by and this time it was the 2011 MTV Movie Awards, held in Los Angeles this past weekend. Young celebrities flocked to the awards show to strut the red carpet, and hopefully show that they have good taste in fashion.

This list is my own opinion alone, after seeing the fashion this year I wasn't that impressed. They are also in no particular order.

Ashley Bell looks young and fresh in this lace white strapless dress, and Guseppe Zanotti pep toe shoes. Her hair is perfectly swept to side. She wore long teardrop earings, bring the eye to her bareneck. She is representing summer perfectly here for me.

The new Transformers leading lady Rosie Huntington-Whiteley wore this tiger inspired Dolce&Gabbana long sleeve mini and Sergio Rossi heels. She looked fierce and her hair went well with her look, by looking a little wild. Her shoes were able to bring the whole look together and make it coherent. It also doesn't hurt that she is a Victoria Secret Model, right?

Reese Witherspoon was also channeling her inner animal wearing a Zac Posen leapord print mini-dress with nude pep-toe pumps and her blond flowy locks. Witherspoon was ready to receive her Generation Awards, she really doesn't looking like she is even old enough to be receiving this awards. She always looks great and at this awards show she was not afraid to be fun and youthful.

Emma Watson, not only is does she play a wizard in "Harry Potter" but she has been the face of Burburry. She is wearing a jeweled neckline line dress by Marchesa and silver six inch heels by Brian Antwood. She looks like she is having fun and really enjoys being a girl. This dress is another great white summer dress, and she was able to make this outfit look well put together. It fits her body great, and it gives her strong shoulders, yet femine soft look/

Selena Gomez, I can lie, is one of my new favorite young fashion starlets she has been making a new name for herself as a fashionista. She is wearing Giambattista Valli, with gold shandalier earing, nude pumps and white cluch. She is able to pull of the nude colors that have been in trend for this summer. She is dressed appropriate for her age and look really great.

Lastly, here is Blake Lively in Michael Kors and purple pumps by Louis Vuitton. Glad to see that she was able to take sometime from lip locking with Leo Dicaprio to grace us with her beautiful self. I love how she made this look a minimalist look, with her slick ponytail and make-up. I love how the bangles on the right arm help bring the ensemble together. She was able to use the jewel tone colors of her shoes and dress to make it a fresh summer look.

Well I hope you enjoyed my top six best dressed list from the MTV Movie Awards 2011. I would love to hear if you agree or don't agree with my list.

Gaga wins fashion icon at the CFDA Fashion Awards

On Sunday the Council of Fashion Designers of America got together to hand out awards to the top fashionista's. Lady Gaga with her exuberant fashion sense was awarded the Fashion Icon for 2011 Awards.

Mother Monster did not to let anyone down, as she showed up wearing a turquoise wig, 7-inch platform heels and a sweatheart shaped dress with spikes decorating the bust. Later on in the night she donned black tape on her nipples and wore a spiked thong.

Lady Gaga has been able to use fashion to help her not only represent who she is, but to make bold statements, let's not forget the famous meat dressed she wore during the 2010 MTV VMA's. After the show she went on the Ellen Degeneres to explain the meaning behind the dress.

"Well it is certainly no disrespect to anyone that is vegan or vegetarian. As you know, I am the most unjudgment-free human being on the earth" Gaga said."However, it has many interpretations but for me this evening. If we don't stand up for what we believe in and if we don't fight for our rights, pretty soon we're going to have as much rights as the meat on our own bones. And, I am no piece of meat."

I can say that she has never bored me, and i really respect her for her fashion choices. Fashion is an art form and Gaga knows how to represent just that. The fashion she wears even if not wearable for normal people, is inspirational. When you make big name designers such as Michael Kors saying that Lady Gaga was the inspiration for his latest fashion line. Having designers say that as they are designing their new line she is the person who they think about, that really says's a lot. Who else is brave enough to actually wear the outfits Gaga wears and is actually able to pull it off?

Let's not also forget she is pretty much the only artist who showed up to the 2011 Grammy's in an egg. She had her own possy carrying it onto the red carpet. For any other celebrity making the grand entrance, being seeing in a designer dress, looking radiant, and making it to the top 1o best dress list is what they strive for. For Mother Monster it is all about her image and what she and her crew of creative minds, decide her image to look like.

Congrat's Lady Gaga, and please keep on being yourself on the runway and in your everyday life. on winning the CFDA Fashion Icon 2011.

Royal wedding overload, did Americans really care?

There is no doubt that the English know how to throw a wedding, the recent coverage of the most eloquent and truly the most beautiful royal wedding, or as many media outlets titled it as “the wedding of the century,” was the most arguably covered wedding. American people complained that the media flooded the news outlets with nonsense information about the wedding and most of them expressed on how much they did not care about it, and they had good reason to. Yet, the news stations would argue that the statistics of viewership and mentions on social media show a different report, since pretty much that is all they care about in the end.

According to neilsen.com the total number of American’s who watched the wedding was an estimated 22,766,469 million people. Yet, in a recent poll done by the New York Times and CBS News only 6 percent of Americans, have been following news about the wedding very closely and only 22 percent are following the wedding somewhat closely. There was a disclaimer in the poll and well they are not always accurate but 6 percent, which is definitely not a lot of people caring about the wedding.

The weddings coverage was done by 11 networks according to neilson.com; this is eight more stations that covered the wedding compared to Prince Charles and Camila Parker Bowles. It is doubt that 11 stations really needed to cover the wedding, since the wedding was constantly shown throughout the day, wasn’t there other news that needed to be covered?

The wedding was broadcast in American early in the morning while a lot of people were asleep. Many decided to sleep in and watch it later on their recording devices, which was a good decision. Therefore, there was no need to have a five to six hour segment on the wedding, since most of it was the commentators speaking about Kate Middleton. It was hard to turn on the television or go on the internet on the day of the wedding without hearing about it. Facebook and Twitter had constant feeds mentioning the wedding in some way. The day of the wedding, Twitter and Facebook showed record numbers of people using social media to talk about the weeding, yet www.whatthetrend.com list the royal wedding at number seven on the week ending April 29. The wedding did not even make it to the top five, funny to mention that it did not even beat out Justin Bieber fans who trended the teen pop about the wedding.

The main question to ask is why American news stations were giving so much attention to the wedding of two people? It seems that in order to justify the coverage news stations titled it “the wedding of the century.” It was pretty sad how much it was mentioned in the news outlets day in and day out, for the past months since their engagement, when it really was not breaking news.

CNN reported that they had an average of 1.66 million viewers the morning of the wedding, stating that it has been the biggest audience since the 2008 president election.
News stations would argue that if they were the only ones not showing what the people want to see they would lose out in the ratings, but aren’t news station supposed to be showing the news, such as, the earthquake in Japan, and the tornado destroying the airport in Saint Louis, Missouri? I understand that we live in America and the society is infatuated with celebrity news because that is what people want to see, but there should be a line or a limit to entertainment television compared to news. Maybe if people paid more attention to what is going on out there in real life they would car more and actually put time in to make a change; instead of just complaining about it on social media outlet.

It boggles the mind on how the news media outlets thought that Americans really cared about the wedding. In the same New York Times poll it said that 4 out 10 women above the age of 40 were interested in watching the wedding and men pretty much did not care. Sadly to say is that these facts show that not only do women still dream about the fairy tale wedding, which the royals put on, but cared to see a wedding which was not their own or of anyone they knew. Many of these women it would be safe to say, were around during the time that Princess Diana was married to Prince Charles. Also something to add is that she has remains the most popular royal to date according to the New York Times, and that fans of the royal family still remember Princess Diana fondly and wanted to see her oldest son marry.

Many American’s breathed a sigh of relief when it was all over, and mostly likely even cheered two days later, actually they did cheer, when the whole country shifted its news coverage to the death of Osama Bin Landen. Now there is a whole different kind of news that is flooding the news stations and it does not have to do with designers, guest list and “the kiss.” Now it seems that viewers do not have to go through something like this again because it was the “wedding of the century.”

Sorry for my absents

With school finally over and my last final taken last Thursday, I am officially free! I will have an abundant amount of time in my hands for the next few months. I have decided to keep up my blog and your interest in fashion, beauty and summer.

I will also start up a blog for when I am out in England studying fashion, the culture, and the people. I can't believe that I will be living in weather that will not permit me to wear short or a tank top. I have never experienced living in such cold weather before in my life, let's say, it will be a huge diffence in my life.
This was taken right before I took my last final and after having a beer at the Nugget on Cal State Long Beach campus.

Well now that I have hopefully caught your attention back let's, get back to talking about fashion trends. I am always open to constructive critisism and to questions.
